THERAPY Focus of the Month Emotional Freedom
Techniques - EFT
If you are seeking a proven, effective way to
improve your health, develop your attitude, behaviour and personality, resolve
personal problems, reduce stress and restore life balance then EFT is the
answer. EFT enhances performance at work, in business, sporting achievements as well as improving personal and social life.
EFT - Introduction
Past events such as problems with relationships,
rejection, trauma or loss can unbalance our emotions causing deep feelings of stress or
even physical pain. Ongoing work related stress, anxieties, interpersonal
problems and depression can also make us feel emotionally vulnerable.
EFT removes negative emotions and promotes
feelings of balance and harmony in the mind and body.
EFT works towards dispersing and releasing
emotions so that they no longer affect our lives. Negative feelings may be
helped by seeing a doctor or a counsellor however, EFT can have an instant
effect and problems can be resolved without the need for weeks, months or even years of consultations, counselling or drugs.
How EFT works
EFT gently and effectively changes and balances
the body’s energy system rather like clearing a blockage in a drain! Picture
some grease in the waste pipe representing a blocked emotion in your energy
stream. You can be completely sceptical about the theory and not understand how
it works. Just as you may not completely understand the theory behind the Dyson
vacuum cleaner, you know that it works. That's how it is with EFT.
TESTIMONIAL
………………………
“As you
know my alias is Mr. Sceptic but I think as far as EFT is concerned I will have
to change my name!
When I came to see you, I had been troubled by nagging pains in my lower back
and my hips. After the first round of EFT the pains had become less severe.
After the second round of EFT they had almost completely disappeared. I could
hardly believe what had happened.
2 weeks later, I am still
amazed. I thought that maybe the relief would be temporary but I am now almost
pain free.”
Simon - Radlett
“It is the first time for years that I have been able to reach over and
turn off my bedside lamp, without severe pain in my shoulder and arm.”
Marilyn - Radlett
“I feel great after the session yesterday. It was good to find out that
the things that I thought were affecting me may not be the actual reasons why I
am down.”
Charles – Surrey
“Played badminton
for 2 hours straight yesterday and NO PAIN AT ALL. Amazing!
I did manage to play 5 straight games of badminton without any pain during or
afterwards. I am still pain free. Bizarre but fantastic!! I feel fine.”
Karen – Holmer Green
“I wish to thank you for all you
have done for me, you have changed my life.
With the loss of 4 members of my
family in a period of 7 years, I was extremely depressed. I had taken to drink
and cigarettes to escape the pain. My personal relationships were at an all
time low. All my doctor could offer were anti-depressants, that was a route
that I did not want to take. So when I heard about your therapies I thought I
would try it. I am so pleased I did.
M.G. – Bucks.
“With my divorce, my low self
esteem, a sense of rejection and the break-up of a new relationship, I was
ready to commit suicide. I was turning to drink (2 or 3 bottles each night) as
my escape.
Thank you so much for what you have
done for me. I had never heard of EFT before I came to see you.”
J - Bucks.
Some of our clients need to understand or to
find out more about the theory, whilst others are only happy that it has worked
for them.
What EFT Involves
Using EFT involves identifying and then ‘tuning
into’ a specific emotional issue or physical pain. You (or the therapist) will
then gently tap specific acupressure points on the body with the fingers. For
example, if you have suffered a relationship breakdown in the past or you have
an intense physical pain, the therapist will ask you to think about the issue
and notice how you feel. You do not have to relive the event(s) but you will be
aware of any negative feelings present. You will be shown which acupressure
points to tap and also you will be asked to help to disperse the negative
emotions from the system by saying a relevant affirmation. Following the
tapping and saying the affirmation you will be asked to think about the issue
once more and to check how you feel. At this point you will notice that the
intensity of the negative feelings or physical pain are considerably reduced.
If necessary the EFT practitioner will repeat the process until the intensity
of your feelings is brought down completely and balance is restored.
After EFT do the negative feelings
or pain return?
No, the negative emotions or pain rarely return.
You may still have other, different negative feelings or pains in other areas
as EFT targets specific areas individually. Each area needs its own, separate
treatment. However, once you have unblocked your drain, your negative emotions
will be washed away.
Undoubtedly you will always retain memories of
specific events but the emotions driving anger or pain will have been
dispelled. Each time EFT is used the emotions will begin to be dispersed more
easily and become less intense.
EFT Innovation and
Development
During
the 1990s Gary Craig began the development of Emotional Freedom Techniques in
the USA. Due to it’s amazing success, which can be backed up by testimonials
and real life case histories, EFT is now spreading very rapidly here in the UK
and is used in some specialist areas of the National health Service.
What can EFT be used

pains, phobias, depression, obsessions, fears, guilt, abuse, disease, emotional
